Glycerin (glycerol) belongs to the group of trihydroxy alcohols.
It is a colorless, odorless, syrupy, viscous liquid with a sweet taste.

It is produced through hydrolysis, saponification, or transesterification.
It is manufactured from plant oils and animal fats. It is also formed as a by-product during biodiesel production.

Glycerin possesses strong hygroscopic properties and mixes with water in any proportion. It dissolves in many organic solvents. It has a higher density than water and remains in a liquid state over a wide range of temperatures.
It demonstrates high stability during storage and is non-toxic.

Due to these properties and its easy availability, glycerin has found applications in various industrial sectors.

  • pharmaceutical and medical industry
    Pharmaceutical glycerin is used, among other things, as an ingredient in syrups, as a coating for medicines and supplements, and for the production of glycerin suppositories. It is also a component of preparations that have lubricating properties. Glycerin is also utilized in laboratories, for instance, during electrophoresis procedures.
  • food industry
    Vegetable glycerin is used as a solvent for oily substances, enabling the maintenance of appropriate food moisture and achieving the desired texture for coatings. Vegetable glycerin is utilized in syrups, beverages, liqueurs, dried fruits, ice creams, candies, pastries, bread, gums, and gummy candies. Vegetable glycerin can also be used as a preservative.
  • cosmetic industry
    The cosmetic glycerin is used, among others, in conditioners and hair masks, facial creams, toners, balms, masks, lipsticks, foundations, and in soap production.
  • feed industry
    Feed glycerin helps prevent ketosis in cattle and is also used as an additive to low-quality feed. Additionally, it prevents drying, overheating, and freezing of feed in the feed trough.
  • automotive industry
    Glycerol is added to brake fluids, coolants, and windshield washer fluids.
  • paints, varnishes
    Glycerin is a component of gums, resins, automotive enamels, and paints.
  • tanning industry
    Glycerin, due to its hygroscopic properties, is used to protect leather from drying out.
  • e-liquid production
    Glycerin is used in the production of e-liquid bases.
